The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 7 February 2016
The February edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, explored key dates for Girlguiding. Maxine was joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers, who discussed Valentine's Day, the Leap Year, and World Thinking Day. A shout-out was also given to Charlie and Sophie, who were unable to join the pre-recorded show in the studio.
Specific guiding activities highlighted included 1st Colgarshal Rangers' "Clueless in Cambridge" trip and a 24-hour camp out. Girls were also working on a Butterfly badge and the Mission Spectacular challenge badge, recently released by Girlguiding head office. The show also mentioned the Centenary Year.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
