The Gene Radio Show
Sunday, 3 January 2016
The January 2016 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and girls from Girlguiding Essex North East. The programme highlighted the Senior Section, for girls aged 15 to 20, encouraging them to share their activities and journeys. The team also looked forward to a busy guiding year, discussing new girls joining units and plans ahead.
The episode detailed guiding activities, including Guides making their promise at the monument in London and working on a baking badge. Looking ahead, the team discussed Thinking Day in February and an upcoming jamboree. County news featured the 'Gig for Girls' county concert for all sections, and County Training on May 14th. There was also mention of a world guiding badge, the Sangam anniversary, and County Commissioner Helen.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
