The Gene Radio Show

Monday, 7 December 2015

This December edition of The Gene Radio Show, broadcast on 7th December 2015, was presented by Maxine. She was joined by girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, including Sophie, Holly, and Grace. The programme embraced the festive spirit, with Maxine making "no apologies for the Christmas cheese" and the team discussing their various family Christmas traditions.

The show featured contributions from Julie Bentley, the Chief Executive. A lead volunteer discussed the Girlguiding Anglia Weekend at PGL, which included activities like abseiling, Jacobs Ladder, and tunnelling, as enjoyed by girls at the Supernova weekend. The team also highlighted a leadership weekend, a "night at the movie" at Tomas Campsite, and a girls' tribute concert. Several county units were chosen as Co-op good causes, and listeners were directed to the Girlguiding Essex North East website.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
