The October edition of The Gene Radio Show was presented by Maxine, joined in the studio by Hannah, Ari, and Sophie. Girls from Fourth Motion Guides, Alice and Jenny, also contributed to the programme. This month, the show celebrated the Big Gig pop concert, an exclusive event for Girlguiding members, and highlighted the importance of fundraising through Macmillan coffee evenings.
This edition featured discussions about a badge and other guiding events. Girls from Fourth Motion Guides shared their experiences of hosting a Macmillan coffee evening. The show also included an interview with Stacey Sullivan. Listeners heard about the pride of being a Queen's Guide and how guiding helps girls develop.
About this show
The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.
It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
