The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 6 September 2015

The September 2015 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine with girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, featured the Little Haven's Team. The main theme was the Great Guide Bake Off, with reports from the county finals. The programme also announced the relaunch of the G'dnie media challenge and looked forward to upcoming Senior Section celebrations. The show celebrated the Essex North East County Bake Off winners, including Katie from 1st Branch and Jade, who reported from the finals. Maxine's unit attended Cam Jam in August.

The G'dnie media challenge was relaunched, now more accessible for younger members. Guiding activities mentioned included working towards an animal badge, a visit to a pet centre, and a local Cat's Protection branch visiting a meeting. Upcoming events included a 24-hour camp out, the Mongolian Challenge trek, and a world camp in Cambridge for 10,000 scouts and guides. A limited edition Queen's coronation badge (1952-1992) was also mentioned.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
