The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 5 July 2015

The July 2015 edition of The Gene Radio Show, presented by Maxine, featured girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. In the studio, Carlya, Amber, and Holly shared their experiences, alongside Hannah Marshall. The programme highlighted a busy month of activities, with a strong focus on the Summer Solstice Camp and a special baking competition.

The show celebrated Brownies who participated in a baking competition, judged by Rosemar Shreger, with winners progressing to a county bake-off. Listeners also heard about the Summer Solstice Camp, organised by Girlguiding Essex North East for Guides aged 10 to 14.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
