This June 2015 edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine and girls from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. The programme explored the significant contributions of Guides during wartime, including their roles in food production and supporting the Red Cross, with Sophie sharing details. A major focus was also given to the ongoing Great Guide Bake-Off, with updates on the county competition.

The show detailed the historic war badge, earned for 21 days of hospital service, and discussed the BP, Guiding's highest award. Listeners heard about the Girlguiding Essex North East County Bake Off Competition, including recipes for chocolate brownies and Millionaire Shortbread. The County and Regional Diaries announced a Brownie weekend in the Riffwood from 19th-21st June 2015, and the opportunity to meet the international team at the county office.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
