The Gene Radio Show

Sunday, 5 April 2015

The April edition of The Gene Radio Show featured Maxine with girls from Senior First Cultural Guides, and leaders Jade, Sophie, and Charlie. Bethany Wallace, a Guide leader from Chelmsford North, also joined the programme. The discussion explored diverse experiences within Girlguiding, from individual journeys through the sections to the structure of local units.

Listeners heard about the Rainbow challenge badge and a new badge designed to teach girls and leaders about the county team, including the arts, guiding development, and international sections. International trips were a key topic, with discussions of world centres, UK Jamborees, and a planned Machu Picchu adventure in October. Unit life was highlighted by a mixed unit of Sparks, Brownies and Guides.

About this show

The Gene Radio Show was made by Girl Guides. It belonged to Girlguiding Essex North East: Guides from across the county joined Maxine J in the studio, a rotating team of young co-hosts sharing guiding life, community stories, and conversations with politicians and celebrities. For more than a decade, the programme put guiding on the air in the Guides’ own voices.

It began on Saint FM 94.7 in Maldon, a station which has since closed, and moved to Chelmsford Community Radio in 2015. On CCR it was on air on the first Sunday of the month, from 2015 until 2 August 2026, and the archive holds 133 editions. The show has now ended.
